Create a channel

You must first create a YouTube channel to market on YouTube.

It’s as simple as going to YouTube.com and clicking “My Channel”, in the left column.

YouTube will then take you to this screen. Here you can choose your channel name, and you can also read YouTube’s terms and conditions. Google also informs you that it may share this information with other properties.

You don’t need to enter your first and last names for businesses. Instead, click the link that reads “Use business name or another name.”

You’ll be taken to a screen showing you all the channels you can create. One can be created based on your name, email address, or any properties in Google+.

To get the best results, you can enter your company name in any way that you would like it to appear on videos. You might also consider using a popular nickname for your company.

No matter what your selection, you will need to click “Create a new channel” on the left-hand side. This option is not highlighted in red by YouTube.

The page will allow you to name your channel and your industry.

You can choose between “Product or brand” or “Company or Institution or Organization”. Choose the one that best suits your YouTube marketing strategy.

Once you have chosen your name and selected your business type, click the box to agree to the terms of Google+ pages.

Customizing your YouTube channel

YouTube will automatically redirect to your dashboard after you have created your channel.

You can upload videos, manage current videos, add profile photos, modify your settings, and customize your channel.

You should click on the Settings icon, the gear/cog wheel on your right-hand side. Branding is crucial to managing a successful YouTube channel.

This will bring you to a screen that allows you to change your privacy settings and layout. You can also choose to access advanced settings.

You want your YouTube channel professional looking so you need to enable customization. This will allow you to change many aspects of your channel’s appearance.

You should also go to Advanced Settings to add important information about your company.

Advanced Settings allows you to add keywords and ads to your channel, link your AdWords account and include your Google Analytics tracking ID.

You can also add branded watermarks and featured content to your channel. You can also check if your channel is “Good Standing” on YouTube.

YouTube will maintain good standing for every channel unless you are associated with an older channel that lost privileges. Otherwise, you don’t have to worry about falling in lousy standing if your channel attempts to exploit YouTube, its users, or its policies.

Once you’ve updated your settings and enabled customization, it’s time for you to return to your dashboard.

You’ll see a slight change in your design.

Adding YouTube channel essentials

You can add new content to your channel and look for tips.

You don’t need to use every customization setting depending on your goals. Videos, Playlists, and Channels are the most important tabs for your channel.

Videos tab

You’ll find all the videos that you have uploaded in the Videos tab. Your screen will look like this when you have just created your channel.

YouTube will automatically list your videos in chronological order after you upload them. The newest videos are listed first.

Tab Playlists

The Playlists tab can be used to group videos you have created manually. You can create a new playlist once you are on this screen.

Playlists are most effective when videos are organized according to their subject matter. If you have many product demonstration videos, group them into a playlist called “Product Demonstrations.”

A more casual playlist, called “Just for Fun” and “Behind The Scenes”, could be created that shows the world what your company looks like behind closed doors.

Channels tab

Although the Channels tab has a lower importance than the other two, it allows you to promote other YouTube channels or partner businesses.

Although this tab might not be very important right now, it is a great way to cross-promote. This tab is especially helpful if your business has many subscribers. You can leverage that with other YouTube channels to turn a small profit.

About tab

The About tab is the final option. This tab allows you to optimize your channel before any content is added.

You can add a description to your channel in the About tab. The description should contain a brief overview of your business, along with keywords and branding that are relevant to your industry. You can then add additional information about your specific business.

You can also attach your business email address to the About tab so that you can passively generate leads. You can also choose your country of origin.

You can also add links to your channel. To keep the channel clean, you should only include one or two links. These links should link to the most important pages of your website, such as your homepage or conversion page.

You’ve now established the foundation for a successful YouTube channel. Now it’s time for you to produce content.
