Do you need the right hosting for your website?
Hosting options can seem overwhelming. When it comes to hosting your website, there are many providers available.
You can find specific web hosting services that offer what you are looking for, such as Namecheap.
Namecheap began as a domain registrar back in 2000. Its success led Namecheap later to offer hosting services.
The company currently has more than 11 million customers and hosts more than three million domain names.
Namecheap is proud to say that while some companies make their living off upselling, it doesn’t. Namecheap is a company that offers affordable pricing plans that will give you the products and services you require.
Compare Namecheap with The Best Web Hosting Services
Namecheap is not the only web host service. We found other web hosting services that we liked better, which was a result of extensive research and trial and error. Namecheap was not the best web host for us.
Namecheap may not be on our list, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth considering for your hosting needs. Namecheap might have the right solution for you. Hosting requirements vary from one person to another. It’s worth knowing more about. Namecheap is a great resource for learning about it.
Namecheap: The Good & The Bad
Let’s dive into Namecheap’s pros & cons to see if they are worth your time and whether the cons are not a deal-breaker.
The Good
Namecheap is a trusted brand. Namecheap has been around for over 20 years. It is well-known in the world of hosting. Namecheap has over three million customers. They have been able to iron out many kinks over the years and have a good product today.
A high level of uptime is a must. A high uptime percentage means less downtime for your website. You don’t want downtime. Your site will lose more customers the longer it is offline.
Namecheap’s 100% uptime guarantee is why we love it. You get your money back if you don’t achieve 100% uptime. This is customer service. Namecheap can offer this service because of its history of high uptime. Although there have been minor dips in the past it has not been catastrophic. The current average uptime is 99.97% which is very close to perfection.
Namecheap will also pay you if your uptime is not perfect.
Namecheap offers a free domain and migration. If your website is hosted with another provider, but you are unhappy with their services, Namecheap allows you to easily switch to their plans. These plans are so inexpensive that you don’t even have to pay anything. Namecheap allows you to migrate your website from any other hosting provider for free.
A domain is also included in the plan purchase. Domains are their specialty, so this makes sense. We love a freebie, especially if it’s something that we can use.
Namecheap Guarantee: Are you unhappy with your Namecheap experience or the money-back guarantee? No problem. Namecheap will reimburse you if you decide to stop using your services within 30 days.
This means that you have a whole month to test your Namecheap plan. You can choose to switch plans or return your money if you are unhappy with the results.
The Best Basic Plan: If your search for web hosting has been successful, you will know that most providers offer the minimum. These plans are a good starting point for new website owners, but they may not be sufficient if you require more than a site to park on the server.
Namecheap is different. Don’t let the name fool you because, even though their basic plan is cheap (we are talking pocket-change-just-over-a-dollar cheap), they offer a lot more than most of their competitors.
Namecheap’s bare-minimum plan gives you unlimited bandwidth. This is an uncommon benefit that you’ll enjoy as your website grows. You also receive a free SSL certificate for the first year. As with many free SSL certificates, the first year is completely free. Every year thereafter, you will have to pay. Namecheap also offers the same.
One of our favorite things about this service is the fact that backups are free twice per week. While other providers only offer backups once per week, this is a bonus. Backups are essential because you never know what could go wrong with an update, which could cause your entire website to crash.
It doesn’t end there. The basic plan also includes three websites. This is a significant upgrade to the one website hosting most services offer with their cheapest plans. This perk is great if you are looking to manage a business or personal website.
You also get 50 email addresses. Many providers give you only one email address, while others don’t offer any. 50 is an incredible bonus.
Another thing is that you get 50 MySQL databases. Most providers offer much less.
Quick loading time: Nobody wants to listen to the Jeopardy theme while they wait for websites to load. A website that takes longer than 3-4 seconds is almost certain to be abandoned by users who want to go to another site.
Google says that a website should load in under three seconds. But you should strive for less.
Namecheap makes Google’s number one search engine. Their page speed average is 458 ms. This passes the test with flying colors. It seems like the speed of this provider is getting faster.
The Bad
Namecheap’s unreliable customer support: The Knowledgebase is a great resource that can help you if you are having problems that you believe may be common or experienced by others.
These topics include SSL certificates and email services.
You can also find how-to videos, which will guide you through any question and give solid answers.
It is possible to get lost in Knowledge Base or how-to videos.
Namecheap’s live chats are responsive at first but do not keep up with the increasing number of questions. It takes us longer to get answers in chat than we’re used to.
For any concerns or questions, you can also submit a ticket. However, this will not guarantee a prompt response. Namecheap doesn’t offer phone support, so you shouldn’t try to find a number to call.
