Now imagine a pop up newsletter. The pop-up doesn’t allow you to view any product. Your eyes are now blurred and you’re annoyed.
A Story About a Large Pop Up
I was a former employee of a large eCommerce company similar to this one. Our team spent weeks refining headings and copy, labels, visuals and calls to action.
The pop-up was so loud that it was nearly impossible to see the other content at the end. The list grew significantly in just a few weeks. Even an online dashboard was created to recognize new leads coming in minute-by-minute.
After a few weeks, the management realized that list growth wasn’t generating revenue.
The company received a lot of leads but they were noisy and poor. These leads didn’t generate any revenue as they were a waste of time and cost money because people clicked on the pop-ups.
The company did not want leads. They wanted quality leads. Emails with low bounce rates and high opening rates were important to them. Emails that aren’t blocked or marked spam will not be allowed to go.
Strategy to Generate Leads
Reluctant people are more likely to respond positively to messages that interrupt their normal workflow.
Timing is everything. If we want to get positive responses, we need to be able to pinpoint the right moment in the user’s journey when they will respond positively to disruptions. We must think carefully about how to communicate our messages in a humble and respectful manner.
There are a few options:
- Integrated messaging
Better integration of messages with other messages will lead to greater success. Think about empty states, 404 errors, product pages and blog posts.
- Success stories.
Your messaging can be integrated into these moments. After an invoice has been paid.
- Non Modal dialogs.
Collapsible Dialogs can be used to reduce distraction
- Confirmation pages
You will receive a 15% discount for your return email. You will get a 15% discount in return.
- Confirmation email link.
Users can subscribe to our newsletter via clicking a link in the confirmation email.
- Price is not everything
You could place the newsletter box on the most important pages, right next to the product pricing information. They would be encouraged to sign up for the newsletter to receive 10-15% off their initial purchase.
What about Ecommerce Retailer?
It is possible that you won’t find the same thing in your area that worked for another company. It is a smart idea to try all options and find the best one.
An eCommerce retailer discovered that the best way to generate leads was to integrate the newsletter box with the price. While this did not result in as many leads as the original popup, it had a greater quality and longer-lasting effect.
Customers must be able to trust brands.
