It isn’t easy, and it’s not something you can do easily. This article will show you how to increase email delivery and ensure that customers get the emails they want.
What is Email Deliverability?
Many people believe that email is instant communication. Although this may be true, many things could happen to your email before it reaches its destination.
Email delivery is the ability for your email to reach its intended recipient. This can be complicated so let’s break it into four main categories. 1) The sender’s mail server 2) Spam filters (3) The Internet 4) The mail servers of your recipients Now that those are out of the way let’s take a look at each one.
1. The Sender’s Mail Server – This is the most obvious. This is the most important part of deliverability. If your email does not reach the sender, it means that there is a problem.
This is the most important issue. Both senders and recipients need to know how many mail servers they have access to.
It is possible to send emails from one server but receive them on another. This could mean that your messages won’t reach their intended recipients at all. There are ways to fix this.
- You should ensure that each account is used by only one person.
- You can set up a dedicated email address for your business, so you don’t have to worry about more than one server.
- You can use an SMTP relay (see below).
2. Spam Filters – Although most people don’t know it, the vast majority of spam is generated by computers.
This means that even though someone may have their mail server and can receive emails from you via it, they could be sending thousands of messages per day that will never reach any inbox.
This problem can be solved by using a spam filter at both ends.
- You should provide a strong anti-spam filter for your recipient.
- It is also a good idea to install one on your mail server
3. Internet Filters – Internet filters are the best option if you are concerned about spam. Although they can be used by both the sender and recipient, they are not as effective against viruses or malicious content.
You should ensure that the person you choose to use has a reputation for being able to handle these types of issues.
- Check that the filter on your recipient is current.
- You can use an SMTP relay (see below).
4. You can use secure email services to send emails to people who don’t have internet filters.
Many of the most popular ones, such as MailChimp and Campaign Monitor, offer free accounts that are extremely useful for both small businesses and individuals.
- The recipient should create their account.
- They will be able to read all your emails.
- Then, you can send them from another place.
How To Improve Email Deliverability?
Email marketing is a practice that has existed for many years. However, it is evolving. Although technology has made it easier for people to send and manage email, there are still challenges.
Let’s talk about some tips to make your email more secure, accessible, and useful for your subscribers. It is important to ensure that your email addresses are not blocked. This will improve the delivery of your emails. This can be done in many ways.
1. Use an Email Service Provider (ESP), such as MailChimp and AWeber – These ESPs are great tools that can help improve your email delivery with many things, provided they’re used properly.
Examples include tracking clicks and open on links, automatically verifying subscribers with the DKIM system, sending welcome messages to anyone who subscribes, and so forth.
2. Creating a custom domain and subdomain- Like (yourname.yourcompany.com) and then setting up an SPF record.
This will allow you to verify the sender’s email address, making it more difficult for spammers to send emails to your domain with fake addresses or spoofed headings to bypass filters such as DKIM.
3. Use a Sender Policy Framework (SPF strong – These tools will tell you if there is any SPAM problem at that IP address. This will ensure that legitimate messages don’t go to junk folders as they are not being reviewed.
4. Cloudflare Smart Host – This will allow you to bypass some of the more complex junk filters and can increase your server load by up to 50%.
If you are already receiving enough traffic, this may not be too much for a small business or an organization with limited resources that needs to keep its costs down.
Cloudflare should be contacted directly to get an estimate of how much traffic they would handle before you consider using them for your email marketing efforts. They have excellent customer support staff.
5. Sender Reputation System (SRS) – These systems are growing in popularity and can help you get through junk filters. However, they come at a cost so you need to decide if the investment is worth it for your business.
6. MailChimp and other ESPs can send out email newsletters – This is one of my favorite ways to do so. Many ESPs have amazing tools that allow you to track opens/clicks on the links and verify subscribers automatically using SPF records.
Many offer an opt-out or unsubscribe option that allows you to stop getting emails from them.
7. A Mailing List Manager – This alternative method of mailing newsletters can be very efficient if it’s used properly. It is also a good option for small organizations that have limited resources.
It can be used in conjunction with other options, but it is not a substitute for direct connections between your email subscribers and your website content. Make sure to use social media posts as comments on relevant blogs to make those connections back.
You should contact the company if you are using a Mailing List Administrator to verify that your list is worth their time.
8. Using an ESP of another provider – This is probably the best way to bypass junk filters, as there’s rarely a reason for email providers such as Gmail and Yahoo! (or any other service) to stop messages being sent by people with whom they are in a direct relationship.
This method is more expensive than sending via SMTP. This method requires you to locate an ESP that accepts connections from your domain, and then send the email using a service such as MailChimp/Campaign Monitor.
9. Using an SMTP Server – If you have access to SendGrid, this is another option. However, it can be quite costly.
This is why I recommend this method only as part of a larger strategy to send newsletters to different providers at different times throughout the week. You can avoid junk filters and still reach your audience at their preferred times via blog comments and social media posts.
10. You can use a third-party service to send emails –Many companies offer free email services. However, they will usually ask you to sign up for their mailing lists.
If you live in the US or UK, MailChimp is a great option. It’s completely free and has many great features such as Automated Campaigns. All your subscribers receive an email with a link to your latest resource about whatever topic they are interested in right now.
You can also use their services to send different types of emails if your business has a blog or website.
11. Using an ESP that supports SMTP connections – There are many email providers such as Gmail and Yahoo! You can also get a free account for personal or small business use (or even for large businesses).
These services are often called “Gmail” and “Yahoo!” Mail is not the same as “Gmail” or “Yahoo!”
You can sign up for one of these accounts free of charge here. If you are an existing Gmail/Yahoo! user, then you can also sign up. Follow these steps to create it for your business.
12. Transacting emails with an ESP (like PayPal and Stripe ) – You can send credit card payments via email if your ESP account is with the payment provider.
These accounts are often called “PayPal” but they function exactly like any other online transaction. Sometimes they even work better, as they bypass credit card company fees.
Best Tools To Improve Email Deliverability
1. The Sender Scorecard Tool – This tool allows you to see how many emails are being sent by your domain, their destination, and whether they have been delivered.
You will also receive a report on the email delivery statistics per country/region, which can be used to identify countries with higher spam rates. It is free for up to 3 domains per month. After that, it will cost $14
SenderScorecard has information about setting up an account and a list of all countries/regions.
Although Sender Scorecard does not provide email delivery information, it can give you some useful information about your spending habits as well as how other people are receiving them. You can also use it with up to 3 domains per month for free (after that, you will have to pay).
2. SendGrid – SendGrid allows you to send emails from your domain and use any SMTP server that you choose (for example, Google Apps). It can be integrated with other apps such as Campaign Monitor or MailChimp to create more complicated campaigns.
This tool is very simple to set up. However, the best thing about it is its ability to help you improve deliverability by testing whether emails are being delivered correctly with A/B testing.
This tool may be helpful for those who want to see their campaign results in real-time. However, it is not the best choice if you don’t need a tool to analyze your deliverability.
4. MailTrack – MailTrack allows you to send emails from any SMTP server that you choose (for example, Google Apps). Although it offers A/B testing, it is less extensive than SendGrid.
Different types of campaigns can be set up, such as “Buy Now” and “Subscribe”, which can be very helpful in determining what type of copy is most effective to increase sales and subscriptions.
This campaign can also be useful if you want to determine which email copy is most effective for your business.
3. MailChimp A/B Test Tool – MailChimp is a popular tool for marketing automation that provides many tools such as segmentation, lead scoring, and analytics.
It is also easy to create campaigns via their online editor. However, there are some things you can do to improve the effectiveness of these campaigns.
- Mailchimp’s default settings include an unsubscribe link at bottom of emails. This is not recommended.
- Mailchimp does not allow you to send test emails directly. To send test emails, you will need to use a third-party tool such as SendGrid or AWeber
- You cannot track the results of an email campaign created by you (which is not recommended).
